WARTS
Warts can appear as a small or large growth anywhere on your body and for a variety of reasons. There are different types of warts that include; common warts (verruca vulgaris), plane warts (verruca plana), filiform warts (verruca filiformis), palmar warts, plantar warts, genital warts, flat warts, pigmented warts, and mosaic warts.
The location a wart can occur on the body is typically determined by how and why it got there. Warts are the result of excessive buildup of keratin caused by varying strains of human papillomavirus (HPV).
Because the cause of warts is a virus strain, they are contagious. The location a wart occurs on the body is typically determined by how that body part was exposed to the virus; as well as by other contributing factors, such as a person’s age, a compromised immune system, and open wounds.
While skin-to-skin contact is the most common transmission of warts, they can also be transmitted through personal items such as towels and shoes. Public places like swimming pools, showers and gyms can present as breeding grounds for warts if the conditions are ripe. In order to minimize the spreading of warts, it is important to cover your warts if there is a likelihood of exposure to others, and to protect yourself by wearing sandals and using your own towels.
