HYPERPIGMENTED SCARS

Hyperpigmented scar treatment with customized compound medication. A hyperpigmented scar or hyperpigmentation can be caused by sun damage, inflammation, or other skin injuries, including those related to acne vulgaris. People with darker skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation, especially with excess sun exposure.

Many forms of hyperpigmentation are caused by an excess production of melanin. Therefore, hyperpigmented scars can appear darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. Some acne scars can also become hyperpigmented.

Commonly, these scars are also classified as “post-inflammatory” scars. This means that after the sight of injury or acne flare-up is healed, a discolored area is present.

TYPICAL TREATMENTS

Treatments for these scars can range from laser resurfacing, over-the-counter lightening agents, to pharmaceutical lightening agents.
