WOUNDS

Wounds produced by puncture, abrasion, or cutting as well as ulcerations, burns, and skin irritation each result in radically different types of wound. Each type of wound requires a careful evaluation, concern for scarring upon healing, and management of pain and pressure. The compounding pharmacist works with the physician to create the appropriate format for the application of the required medication in all such cases.

Each type of wound requires its own type of topical, transdermal, or other delivery formats. Our compounding pharmacists know how to use very specialized dressings, ointments, gels and bandages. These include the chemically neutral gels (for burn wounds) and/or the medicated “polyox bandage” for special applications where traditional wound covering methods are not appropriate.

Wound care compounding involves several approaches and medications applied topically. Some of the medications are designed with the goal of stimulating new tissue growth, reducing pain, and discouraging bacterial overgrowth. Other medications are designed to increase blood flow to the wound and are applied to the skin that borders the wound.

Fusion Specialty Pharmacy will formulate the ideal solution for your wound care needs.
